This action alert comes from two sources Consistent Life of which PLAGAL is a member organization and Democrats for Life. It is important that Obama hears from those prolifers who are nontraditional in their approach to the prolife cause. We encourage all PLAGAL members and friends to contact President elect Obama with your thoughts.
The first action alert is from Consistent Life
The Obama Administration's transition website includes a section where you can "Share Your Vision."
Wouldn't a consistent-life vision be a marvelous one for them to hear about from plenty of people?

Given the abortion-reduction rhetoric that is the incoming administration's only mandate (because it was what was publicly known during the campaign), here is current information on a couple of pieces of legislation that connect solutions to abortion and poverty:
1) The Pregnant Women Support Act An initiative of Democrats for Life, it has a goal to reduce abortion by 95 percent over a 10-year period. Representative Lincoln Davis and Senator Bob Casey are planning to reintroduce it in the next session. This bill would:• Establish a toll-free number to direct women to places that will provide support during and following their pregnancy.• Provide child care to low-income and student parents.• Provide parenting education in maternity group homes.• Make the Adoption Tax Credits permanent.• Ensure that pregnant women are not denied health care by insurance companies and that coverage is continued for newborns.• Codify the regulation that extends coverage under the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to low-income pregnant women and unborn children.• Increase funding for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program.• Provide grants to institutions of higher education to fund pregnant and parenting student services.• Provide new mothers with free home visits by registered nurses.
2) The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Pregnant and Parenting Student Services Act of 2007,
An initiative of Feminists for Life, a member group of Consistent Life, this was co-sponsored by U.S. Representatives Marcy Kaptur and Sue Myrick in the House and Elizabeth Dole and Ben Nelson in the Senate. If re-introduced in the 111th Congress, it would provide funding for college and university campuses to provide needed services for pregnant and parenting students to enable them to remain in school. These provisions are also in the Pregnant Women Support Act, which is clearly more comprehensive, and we are unaware of whether there are plans to re-introduce this one.

Call to Action! Share Your Vision! The Obama Administration's transition website includes a section where you can "Share Your Vision"(http://www.change.gov/page/s/yourvision). Please take a moment to complete this section thoughtfully and to urge President-Elect Obama to:
1.) pass the Pregnant Women Support Act which will drastically reduce the abortion rate in this country;
2.) allow funding only for stem cell research that does not involve the destruction of human embryos;
3.) listen to and work with pro-life Democrats and people who have differing opinions on abortion before making any major policy changes; and
4.) do not sign or promote the Freedom of Choice Act.
